iFixit has dissected the latest iPhone model, uncovering design elements that may explain the device's folding screen issues. The phone received a 5/10 repairability score, the highest among foldables, though still below ideal. One key feature is the matte nano-texture cover on the internal screen, which not only improves readability in bright light but also helps mask the crease by scattering reflections. The teardown also identified oval-shaped subpixels arranged at various angles, believed to reduce visual artifacts and further conceal the screen's fold line. While the nano-texture layer is easier to replace without affecting the OLED panel, repairing the display itself remains a costly and complex task. Dust infiltration into the USB-C port, speaker grills, and hinge areas was noted, though less than in previous foldable models. The iPhone Duo's hinge, described as highly intricate, may contribute to reported issues like audible cracks and screen damage. iFixit suspects misalignment or pressure concentration near the battery could be the cause. Apple has not yet commented on the findings.
