Tesla to Wind Down Cybertruck Production

Tesla to Wind Down Cybertruck Production

Tesla will scale back Cybertruck production at its Texas factory next year, according to Elon Musk.

Elon Musk has indicated that Tesla will reduce production of the Cybertruck at its Texas facility in the coming year. While he did not confirm whether the vehicle will be fully discontinued or moved to another location, the decision appears to be driven by the need to prioritize the development of the Cybercab, a self-driving vehicle. The project's lead engineer, Wes Morrill, suggested the Cybertruck may be ending its production run, stating that it served as a 'technology development platform' and would continue through the Cybercab. Despite its unique design and initial hype, the Cybertruck has faced delays and underwhelming sales. It launched in 2023 with a distinctive angular look, but sales dropped to just 20,237 units in 2025, far below Musk's projected 250,000 units. The vehicle's high price tag and design critiques have also contributed to its limited market success. The Cybertruck's journey has been marked by both innovation and challenges, with its debut in 2019 marred by a failed glass demonstration. Despite these setbacks, the vehicle has garnered a dedicated fanbase, with some calling it the 'best product Tesla has ever made.'

Impact
The shift in production strategy may signal a strategic realignment for Tesla, focusing on future projects while addressing the challenges faced by the Cybertruck.
