The number of vessels attacked in and around the Strait of Hormuz has reached a new high, according to data from the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) agency. Between 5 and 11 October, 12 ships were targeted, marking the highest weekly figure since the US-Israeli conflict with Iran began. The attacks have disrupted the recovery of oil shipments through the strategic waterway, as industry data shows a slowdown in exports. Experts suggest Iran is intensifying its efforts to assert control over the strait, following the US military's increased protection of tankers navigating the area. The US Central Command emphasized that commercial traffic continues to flow through the strait with coordinated support from US and regional forces. However, the rising number of attacks has raised concerns about the long-term stability of oil exports and the broader geopolitical situation in the region.
