Most Crypto Traders Use AI, But Limit Its Control Over Funds

MEXC's AI Trading Report shows 85% of crypto traders use AI, but most restrict its access to funds.

A recent survey by MEXC, a global cryptocurrency exchange, reveals that 84.8% of crypto traders have used AI for research or trading. While many report improved market research and trade execution, a significant portion still see limited benefits from AI execution. The report highlights that 54% of users would let AI trade with some funds, but no more than 20% of their account balance. This indicates a cautious approach toward fully automated trading, even as interest in AI agents grows.

The findings also show that 65.9% of AI users act on its advice at least sometimes, but only 20% have tried execution without approving each trade. This suggests that while AI is increasingly integrated into trading strategies, traders remain wary of giving it full control. The report further notes that 95.5% of users support at least one mandatory protective measure, emphasizing the need for safeguards against potential risks associated with AI-driven trading.

Blockchain security firm Hacken contributed to the analysis, highlighting that withdrawal restrictions alone are insufficient to prevent losses. AI agents could still be manipulated into making risky trades, underscoring the importance of independent risk controls. The report also found that users prefer customizable safety settings over uniform platform requirements, indicating a desire for both flexibility and security. Despite this, 97.8% of users who support optional settings also back at least one mandatory measure, showing a balance between personal control and industry standards.

The study also reveals generational differences in AI adoption, with younger traders more likely to use AI tools. Additionally, the report found that AI's primary role remains preparation before a trade, with summarizing news and market analysis being the most frequent tasks. Only a small percentage of users rely on AI for direct execution, suggesting that traders are still primarily using AI as a research and strategy tool rather than an autonomous trading agent.

Overall, the report highlights a growing trend in AI adoption within crypto trading, but with significant caution regarding the level of control granted to AI systems. As AI becomes more integrated into trading platforms, the findings suggest that users want clear boundaries, transparency, and the ability to intervene when necessary.

Impact
The report underscores a cautious shift toward AI integration in trading, with users seeking balance between automation and control, which may influence future platform design and regulatory approaches.
