President Donald Trump shared a series of photos on Truth Social showcasing renovations to the White House, including an image that appears to have been altered using AI. The photo, which compares an old column to a 'restored' version, has been flagged by Google’s AI detector as potentially edited with OpenAI tools. Users on Reddit noted several inconsistencies, such as an uneven number of steps on either side of the column and a lack of visible changes between the 'before' and 'after' images. The 'restored' column also appears unnaturally smooth, raising questions about its authenticity. The Verge confirmed that the image was flagged by Google’s SynthID Detector, which identifies AI-generated or edited content. Real photos from June show workers painting the White House facade, suggesting the column may have indeed received a fresh coat of paint. The White House has not yet commented on the matter. Other images posted by Trump, such as those of the White House facade and heliport, did not trigger the AI detection tool. This incident highlights Trump’s ongoing use of AI-generated content, including caricatures and edited images, which has drawn criticism for potential misinformation.
