EU Oil Costs Surge $11 Billion Monthly Amid Middle East Tensions

The EU's oil import bill has risen by $11 billion per month due to Middle East tensions disrupting global oil supplies.

New car registrations in Europe, including the UK, Norway, and Switzerland, rose by 10.2% in September 2026 compared to the previous year. However, conventional gasoline and diesel car sales plummeted, with gasoline car sales down 20.6% and diesel sales falling 28.2%. Battery electric vehicle (BEV) sales surged by 60%, while plug-in hybrid and hybrid electric vehicle sales also saw significant growth.

Impact
The rising oil costs are likely to continue pressuring European economies and accelerate the transition to electric vehicles.
