Elon Musk's Midterm Spending Surpasses $276M for Republicans

Elon Musk has emerged as the leading financial backer of Republican candidates in the 2026 midterm elections, having contributed more than $276 million to party-aligned groups and his own America PAC since July. This marks a significant shift from his earlier stance in May 2025, when he announced plans to reduce political spending. His contributions have bolstered the GOP's financial position amid challenging political conditions. Republican outside groups, including Trump's super PAC, are ramping up late-campaign advertising, while Democrats have expressed concerns over their own financial standing. The Senate Leadership Fund, a key Republican super PAC, received the largest single donation from Musk, totaling $158 million over the summer. America PAC, which Musk founded in 2024, received over $76 million from him during the same period. Musk's total federal committee contributions for the 2025-26 cycle now stand at about $366 million, including $90 million given before July. His contributions during the 2023-24 cycle were roughly $290 million. Musk has also made undisclosed donations in both cycles, including seven-figure contributions through private groups. His spending has focused heavily on Texas, where the Senate race accounts for over a third of America PAC's disclosed spending. The PAC's efforts include door-to-door canvassing, targeting irregular voters in key Senate and House races. Despite his financial support, Musk has taken a less visible role in the campaign, focusing instead on his companies. America PAC has also confirmed its intent to remain active in the 2028 presidential election.
